Introduction

Firearms Safety at Home, in the Field, on the Go

When selling a new gun, virtually all firearms manufacturers in the United States include a pamphlet on safe handling in the box. One even engraves safety warnings along each firearm's barrel. From the point of view of the gun maker and gun shop, the cardinal rule of gun safety is to thoroughly read the instruction manual supplied with your firearm. This is excellent advice for any gun owner.

Unfortunately, many people who need gun safety information—especially people who don't own guns—do not have access to those materials. Moreover, the manufacturers' information varies in quality and depth. As a result, Americans for Gun Safety Foundation strongly recommends that all people interested in learning about gun safety should take a course taught by a qualified professional. This online safety program is designed to supplement such a course and should not be used as a substitute.
