The Americans for Gun Safety Foundation encourages a national dialogue on sensible solutions to improve gun safety.
This section provides information on a number of policy proposals that are currently part of the gun safety debate.
Policy proposals to improve gun safety generally focus on one of three areas: the manufacture, sale or ownership of guns.
These are the three points at which we can intervene to help ensure that guns are safer, and that they are not diverted into the wrong hands. Each of these solutions requires greater responsibility from gun manufacturers, gun sellers, and gun owners.
In many cases, there is solid statistical information available that can tell us how effective a particular approach will be. In other cases, there is little or no concrete information, because a particular solution has not yet been tried. But, as is often the case in grappling with social problems, the common sense solution can be the best approach.
The challenge we all face is to promote solutions that can have substantial impact on gun crime and gun violence, without infringing on the rights of law-abiding citizens.
The Americans for Gun Safety Foundation has not specifically endorsed these proposals. We are presenting them on our website for your information, so you can better understand the wide range of solutions currently proposed, leaving you to decide which approaches you support.
