"Cops die when criminals get guns. I'm Ari Zavaras. I've been Denver's Chief of Police, Colorado's Director of Prisons, and now, as Denver's Manager of Safety, I know that convicted felons buy guns at gun shows because of the loophole in our laws.

"Amendment 22 will close this dangerous loophole by requiring criminal background checks by unlicensed sellers at gun shows. Amendment 22 could mean life or death to a cop. Vote YES on 22."

Ari Zavaras Denver Manager of Safety

"Cops die when criminals get guns" — Ari Zavaras

Denver's Public Safety Manager, who previously served as Denver Chief of Police and Colorado Director of Prisons, is featured in a television spot in support of Amendment 22, the Colorado initiaitve to close the gun show loophole.

The thirty-second ad joins a previous ad by Senator John McCain (R-Arizona) as part of a  $1.5 million media campaign sponsored by the new national non-partisan group Americans for Gun Safety (AGS). This media campaign supports citizen-led referendums to close gun show loopholes in Colorado and Oregon.

Currently, Colorado law allows unlicensed dealers to sell firearms at gun shows without performing the criminal background checks that are required for all sales by federally licensed dealers.

Amendment 22 would mandate the same criminal background checks by unlicensed and licensed dealers at gun shows. Guns used in the Columbine HIgh School shooting and many other crimes were purchased from unlicensed dealers at gun shows—without background checks.

Zavaras was Denver's Chief of Police for four years before becoming director of the state Department of Public Safety. He has spent 25 years in law enforcement and public safety.
