"Measure 5 will close this dangerous loophole buy requiring criminal background checks by unlicensed sellers at gun shows.

"It may seem like just common sense to you, but it could mean life or death to a cop. Vote Yes on Measure 5."

Sheriff Dan Noelle Supports the Oregon Initiative to Close the "Gun Show Loophole"
Sheriff Dan Noelle of Multnomah County, Oregon is featured in a television spot in support of Measure 5, the Oregon initiative to close the "Gun Show Loophole."
The thirty-second ad joins a previous ad by Senator John McCain (R-Arizona) as part of a $1.5 million media campaign sponsored by the new national non-partisan group Americans for Gun Safety (AGS). This media campaign supports citizen-led referendums to close gun show loopholes in Colorado and Oregon.
Currently, Oregon law allows unlicensed dealers to sell firearms at gun shows without performing the criminal background checks that are required for all sales by federally licensed dealers.
Measure 5 would mandate the same criminal background checks by unlicensed and licensed dealers at gun shows. Guns used in the Columbine HIgh School shooting and many other crimes were purchased from unlicensed dealers at gun showswithout background checks.
Noelle, a Republican and a chief petitioner for Measure 5 in Oregon, is a highly respected law enforcement veteran who has spent 29 years in Portland's Police Bureau, fourteen of those as a command officer. He was elected Multnomah County Sheriff in 1995. Sheriff Noelle has consistently spoken out in favor of measures that keep guns out of the hands of criminals and other prohibited purchasers.
