He supports long-term planning and greater accountability from our schools, while giving them the flexibility of local control to determine what priorities fit their needs. |

| Comprehensive water planning |
| | |
|
Stan grew up in rural Colorado and that is where he learned his values. As a fourth-generation Coloradan, he comes from a family that has survived the cyclical droughts that are characteristic of life in our state.
To help ease our current water crisis, he recently called on the state to release more water from the Cherry Creek Reservoir to save crops downstream on the Platte River. He did this because he believes saving the agricultural economy along the Platte River must take priority over jet-skiing and sailing.
Stan supports comprehensive water planning that addresses conservation, repair and expansion of existing facilities, and creation of new water storage facilities. He voted for the $10 billion water storage bond legislation that failed recently after a bi-partisan coalition of Western Slope and Front Range legislators mustered enough votes to kill the bill. They and other family-oriented organizations recognized Stan's innovative approach to issues such as Smart Welfare Reform. For example, in 1997, Stan introduced Senate Bill 116, which would have provided a safety net for families as well as job training and assistance.
