Where's Marilyn? Marilyn Musgrave Ducks Debates

  Where's Marilyn?

FT. COLLINS—Stan Matsunaka has challenged his two opponents to 9 debates in their race for Colorado's Fourth Congressional District. Libertarian candidate John Volz has agreed to participate, but so far Republican nominee Marilyn Musgrave has not responded.

On Musgrave's apparent reluctance to debate, Stan Matsunaka said, "Growing up in rural Colorado I was taught to stand on my own two feet. Colorado's working families deserve to know what I stand for, and they deserve to know what my opponents stand for. John Volz and I both agree about that, and we'll debate each other whether our other opponent ducks the debates or not."

Which leaves only one question: Where's Marilyn?

"We issued our debate challenge to both candidates the night of the primary, and we've called Musgrave's campaign headquarters. So far, we haven't heard anything back from them," said Jim Merlino, campaign manager for Matsunaka for Congress. "Maybe Senator Musgrave will show up in Estes Park unannounced, but given her unwillingness to debate her primary opponent, I doubt it."

The first debate in the series of 9 is scheduled for 8:30pm on Wednesday, August 21st, at the Estes Park Fire Station. It will be moderated by David Czapp, news director for KEZZ FM. The debate will consist of a three-minute opening statement, six questions with two-minute answers, and a two-minute closing statement. John Volz will not be able to attend this first debate, but will participate in future debates. The next debate is scheduled for August 27, from 7-8pm in Greeley. Final location to be announced Friday, August 23.

More about Senator Matsunaka's legislative accomplishments and plans can be found at his campaign website: www.stan2002.com. A press kit for reporters is available at www.stan2002.com/press.html.
