 Drought Relief
     overview    in depth

Stan Matsunaka Marilyn Musgrave
Stan supports both long-term and immediate solutions

Stan Matsunaka voted in favor of $10 billion in new water storage facilities, because he knows we must provide for water storage solutions for the next 30-50 years.

But Stan also knows we must get the crops to market next year and in ensure water solutions in the short term. An aggressive program of dredging and repairs of our existing facilities can improve Colorado's water capacity by 40% in the next 2-5 years.  more

Musgrave's long-term plan ignores today's water needs

Marilyn Musgrave favors long-term water storage solutions also, but she has said nothing about how we will help farmers and ranchers in the short term.

New water storage facilities are at least 10 years off, and Colorado needs drought relief now. Musgrave's long-term plan ignores Colorado's immediate water needs.  more

Stan is confident that the rains will come and the hardship will pass, but it is time we came to grips with our cyclical water shortages. It is time for all Coloradans to look to the future and create a comprehensive water plan that sets achievable 5, 10, 20 and 40 year goals.

We need to make sure that we elect leaders who will respond to Colorado's farmers and ranchers, and ensure that when drought conditions exist, our water goes to farmers and ranchers, not jet skis and sail boats.

We need to support Colorado's farmers and ranchers, and we need a solid water plan that can stand up to the extremes of natural water cycles. A comprehensive water plan should focus on three areas: conservation, expansion of existing water storage facilities, and the creation of new water storage facilities.
