American Bald Eagle

September 11th

Although we are many miles west of New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C., we in Colorado's Fourth Congressional District were deeply affected by the events of last September 11th. Some of us lost friends, family, or co-workers. All of us lost the sense of security we had felt in the pre-911 world.

At the same time that over 3000 lives were lost in the tragic events of 9-11, there was a silver lining in that dark cloud. I noticed right here in Colorado that even as we Americans faced the threat of terror and war, we were uplifted by the warmth, heroism, patriotism, and good deeds of our neighbors. More of us were proud to fly the American flag and tell the world that we are proud to be Americans.

As Americans, let us re-dedicate ourselves to the ideals of liberty and justice for all. When we do that, we tell the world that the terrorist hijackers did not accomplish their goal of undermining America. The Stars and Stripes still flies proudly across these United States—in New York and Pennsylvania, at the Pentagon, and here in Colorado.

Sincerely,

  Senator Stan Matsunaka
