Gail, a nurse for School District RE-3, was born and raised in Fort Morgan, Colorado. She and her husband have raised three daughters, two of whom attend CU and the youngest is a senior at Fort Morgan High School. This is the same Fort Morgan High that Gail attended, along with Stan and his future wife, Kathy. Gail says she was not at all surprised to see her former classmate run for the Colorado Senate seven years ago. After all, he was elected student body president "back when it really meant something, that you had the confidence of your peers." Gail describes Stan as unusually well-rounded for a young person. "He balanced sports, scholarship and student government while being very involved with his family, particularly his younger brothers," she said. "My husband says Stan was a pretty good football playerbut he wasn't conceited about it. We all knew that Stan lost his mother when he was very young, and as far as I could tell he was the only kid of Japanese-American heritage in town. Yet he had such a strong sense of family and such a good heart." "I know Stan. He's sincere and dedicated. The bottom line for me is that Stan understands the average Coloradan. I mean, he's an above-average guy, but he thinks like me. And I know he will listen." |
